To determine your OS go to About eDGe in the Settings app. The version is listed under Build number.
Is opening books your only problem? If so, it sounds like an Adobe DRM issue more than anything (to me -- but what do I know??
).
A couple more questions:
What happened when you tried reauthorizing your eDGe with Adobe?
Where did you get the books you can't open?
If I remember correctly, you have a big eDGe, right? What we call an EE? It is the best eReader!! (In my humble opinion.
) If you decide to upgrade -- which I doubt is necessary -- be very careful that you don't use one of the upgrades intended for the Pocket eDGe (PE): That could cause a
really difficult problem!
