Get the $79 Kindle and use your bedside lamp for night reading. It has wifi and much better battery life than LCD tablets. Kindles are great for borrowing library books because they don't require a USB cable to transfer the books onto the device. It's done over wifi. And, Amazon has great customer service; especially if something goes wrong with your Kindle.

Using a bedside lamp may not work if there is someone else in bed as well. As for library borrowing, a Sony PRS-T1 is a better choice for an eink reader for library eBooks given that the OPs use if library eBooks. You can get a nice light cover for it from either Sony or Gecko. The Wi-Fi for the T1 allows downloading of library eBooks without needing a computer. No need for USB at all.
