I don't think they have done too bad in gaming, actually.
The PlayStation & PS2 are, by a large margin, the best-selling consoles of all-time (not counting handhelds). And while PS3 has been lagging behind Xbox 360, this can be largely attributed to the fact that they launched a year later. And they've almost
caught up now: 59.1m consoles vs. 62.6m for Xbox (the Wii is far more than either).
And in 2011, in fact, the PS3 was the
best-selling console overall (barely, but still...).
