I was interested in your question because my son (also a scientist) was considering getting a sony T1 ereader for reading articles. My reader, which has some problems with freezing and other stuff, was absolute crap at reading the pdf you uploaded. Using landscape mode and swiping or button for page turn meant a wait of between 3-12 seconds for the next page to appear. Some page turns were even longer more than several minutes up to about 5 min. I couldn't even get to the page with figures, just too frustrating waiting for the next section to load. My T1 is good reading epubs but not good at pdfs. I had one pdf book but my T1 would only display blank pages.
But, as I said my T1 has problems; however some people seem to have no problems with theirs. I won't be recommending a T1 to my son...You just don't know if you will buy a good T1 or a problem T1.
