I'm pretty sure SOD isn't related to a firmware update. Many people had it before the first update. I got it about a week after the second update. Although some people are seeing it right after the update, others are getting it at random times.

I've heard it said before, and I'll say it again, I think SOD is an Android issue. If you Google "Android won't wake from sleep" or "Android Sleep of Death" you'll see it is an issue on a number of different Android machines.
