i think that an e-ink reader is a better choice for strictly reading, but it really is personal preference.

i use a reading light that is powered by a single rechargeable AAA battery. the charge lasts for over a month. if anything, the light is a little too bright even on low setting -- i put some scotch tape over it to tone it down a little.

as a side note, i own the kindle keyboard model. a friend of mine asked me which kindle model to get for a christmas present, and after going over all of the various models with him i concluded that i still like the keyboard edition best. if you shop around, you can pick up a used one for less than half the cost of a new one. and i think i remember reading that amazon honors the warranty even if the device changes hands, so as long as the kindle is relatively new there is warranty protection.

i consider the wireless delivery via email one of the relatively unsung kindle advantages. i check out library books (my library now has kindle format), and it is really cool to make a few mouse clicks and -boom!- new book on the kindle.
