The comet doesn't look like a bright star. It started out appearing as a very bright spotlight directed straight up in the sky. It has dimmed considerably and now looks like a long brighter smudge in the Milkyway.

I love the conveniences of modern civilization, but I hate light pollution. When I was a kid, I remember black night time skies full of stars, and that was in the city. Now the night skies are dark blue and there are far fewer stars to see.
