I just read independent author Deborah Emin's
Scags at 18 (there is a Scags at 7 which I've read but it's not necessary to read that to enjoy Scags at 18). It's a nice quick read about Scags, as she starts college in Vermont in 1969. Written in first person diary format. Not my usual genre but I loved it.

It's available in drm-free epub or PDF. I bought the epub and converted to mobi for my kindle -- formatting is good. $9.95. Must confess that I know the author (but wouldn't say I like it if I didn't).
