I don't use Calibre. Instead, I rename all my epub files on my computer before transferring them to my T1, then use "sort by filename" on my T1.

This works especially well when you have a series thus:

Author_01-Title.epub
Author_02-Title.epub
Author_03-Title.epub

But I'm guessing it wouldn't work for your example since it would be cumbersome to force a book to the top of the list unless you knew it was #1 in advance.

For me, if a book isn't in a series, I'm content to let it sort alphabetically by author or title (without "the" or "a" -- so "A Farewell to Arms" would be named Farewell_to_Arms.epub and would sort under "F" rather than "A".)

Note: I only change the epub filename, not the book title in the OPF, so the actual book title remains unchanged. An added bonus to this method is the books appear in order on my computer as well since I store series in individual folders.
