Ruby, by Lauraine Snelling, is 1st in the "Dakotah Treasures" portion of her extended "Dakotah Territory Saga", appears to be a non-romantic historical western frontier-settling mining town coming-of-age adventure starring two sisters seeking their fortune. This is free courtesy of Christian publisher Baker's Bethany House imprint, and I have to say it looks like the niftiest offering from them thus far.
Currently free @ Amazon UK, will likely drop in the main store and show up elsewhere as well, but for probably less than a day like all the other Baker freebies. So if you happen to see it in another store, be sure to grab it and please alert your fellow MR-goers so they can get it too.
It's got a really large filesize, so unless the story comes illustrated with period-accurate woodcut* engravings, I suspect Topaz and Kindlers who are okay with stripping and converting may want to pick up one of the ePub versions should they become available later.
ETA: Now a repeat freebie @
B&N (may also drop in the
UK),
Amazon (new ASIN, available to Canadians & in the
UK),
Kobo &
iTunes &
Google Play (all available to Canadians), and
ChristianBook (ADE-DRM ePub available worldwide).
Description
A New Dakotah Territory Saga From Bestselling Author Lauraine Snelling!
Book 1 of Dakotah Treasures. Author Lauraine Snelling once again takes readers west to the untamed land of Dakota Territory, introducing new characters both unique and appealing.
Ruby Torvald and her young sister, Opal, have received an inheritance from their long-lost father who left home years ago to seek his fortune in the Black Hills. When they leave their comfortable situation in Chicago and arrive at the mining town of Medora to claim their inheritance, the sisters discover that rather than the legacy of gold they expected, their father has left them a shocking bequest.
Ruby's bold determination in the face of scandal leads the reader on a journey both heartwarming and inspiring.
* Okay, copperplate engravings probably more likely around that time period.
