This hit home to me when I read Chesterton's essay on Dickens, in which he (Chesterton) took on the notion that the characters in Dicken's books were broadly drawn, and, indeed, caricatures. Not so, said Chesterton. If you take a look around you, and consider the people you see to be characters in Dickens, you will immediately see that Dickens draws from life.

So the question you would resolve by meeting Le Guin is not whether she is a weirdo. It is merely what kind of weirdo she is. She may be a different weirdo than we think...
