I haven't noticed a slow down on page turns with PDF files on my PRS-T1, the pages turn as fast on it as it does on my other Sony ereaders (500, 505, and 600). One factor might be that I format the PDFs for my screen and don't use any of the ebook manipulation functions (such as reflow). Also, another factor might be that I didn't use my T1 until I upgraded the firmware to the current version to avoid any problems that it addressed.

My process for making PDF ebooks is fairly simple: I create/edit the ebook in StarOffice, save it, and then export it to PDF. I've found it an easy and reliable way to make ebooks for my ereader, and it will look on my ereader exactly as I intended.

When it comes to a table of contents, I don't rely on any type of links. With ebooks that need it, I insert a table of contents at the beginning of the ebook. When needed I look up and then go the appropriate page. It's not fancy, but I've found that it works reliably regardless of the specific ebook reader.
