Depends on the type of books: research books, flight maps, etc, all require large numbers (and lots of space).

those who won't be around convenient (or secure) wifi long periods are also in the mix - a simple solar charger suffices for a year of military or peace corps duty, but a half dozen books generally won't.

As for Mt Everest - just because I don't want to climb it doesn't mean I might not want a copy of a book about climbing or about a particular climb on my Kindle.
