It's not only the Fire. Not sure which one was first, the Samsung Galaxy Tab or the B&N Nook Color (but the latter has never has been released outside the US) (and not counting all those cheap Chinese tablets). Which was around the time all tablet-hell broke lose. And suddenly all producers started to making 10" screens (give or take). But, somewhere this year, there was a change and more and more 7" tablets started to arrive. The HTC Flyer, the Acer Iconia A100, the Lenovo, RIM with the playbook, Samsung with a second model, and I've probably forgotten a few.

I think more and more people are finding that a 10" (give or take) is simply too large to take with you everywhere, where a 7" is a lot handier.
