I only keep a few hundred on my reader right now--but that's because the nav system is awful with too many. If the software were competently designed for thousands of titles, I'd keep that many on the reader.
A lot of my ebooks are short stories. I'd have a lot more of those loaded if the software were better; as it is, loading three hundred fanfic stories is troublesome to wade through. (Hmm. Maybe I should just start making separate fandom folders.) I like having a large library to choose from when I get done with one book; I like "hmm, what am I in the mood for now? Romance? Scifi? Nonfiction? Fanfic?" I don't see why I should have to keep connecting to my computer to change the selection; if it's got space for a 32gb card, why not load 15gb of ebooks on it? (ans: because the software falls apart when dealing with that big a collection.) I have a 2gb card and about 550 ebooks on that, and 300 in the main memory.
