Hmm...I did it on two different Kindle Fire's and they both updated to 6.2.1 after doing the sync and putting them to sleep.
I did have to leave them alone. Anything you do like turning them on to check if it's happening resets the whole process.
So it's Sync...wait 15 seconds...put it to sleep...don't touch it for 10-15 minutes. It's worked like a charm for both the updates I received on the original Fire, and now on the replacement Fire.
Interestingly enough the C0A0 revision Fire I just received today is faster than the B0A0 revision Fire I've been using. I have them side by side, loaded with the same content and the C0A0 is consistently faster at just about every task, especially opening books. There's a good 1 to 1.5 second difference in load times per book.
