I like the concept of the carousel/favorites but not the implementation. I'd like to see it behave similarly to how Microsoft's "QuickView" screen was implemented on the Zune HD portable media player.
For those not familiar with it, the QuickView screen displayed the last accessed album, video, image, etc. and had the option of "pin"ing media elements to that screen for easy access. It was, IMO, a brilliant design that enabled regularly accessed media to be easily accessible without having to burrow through the collection of stuff.
As an intermediate step, having the carousel display only the last item for each category (music, video, photo, app, book, site, etc.) would be helpful, IMO.
