I don't know why I can't just patiently wait for my Fire to update, but I downloaded the update linked by jeremy81 (thanks!).

I seem to remember when manually updating a Kindle 3 I simply added the file to 'root' rather than putting it in a specific folder. I did that on the Fire, then disconnected and turned it off and on, and I am not prompted to update the device. The option to to Update your Kindle is still grayed out. Should I have put the update in a folder, and if so, which one?
