Remember, when you use an app of any kind for the first time, you have to sign into the Kobo account. The person who found the Kobo would have to know the current working password to set any app up: desktop app, blackberry, iOS, Android.

If the password has been changed, then an attempt made later would simply not work. As I said earlier, apparently Kobo can do something to keep a particular device from accessing the account--at least they can with the Vox. It is worth a call to try that. Kobo states that they only allow six devices to access any one account. Perhaps that means that they have a record of what devices are associated with an account and can disassociate one.
