My local Best Buy ereader display was just as you described...other readers such as kindles and nooks working but Sony T1 was in a non-functioning mode.
With Christmas fast approaching and people swarming all around the readers... I overheard a salesperson steering a customer away from the T1 saying "I wouldn't recommend the Sony". I interrupted the conversation and asked the salesperson "why not?". She couldn't give a specific reason. She confessed she had never actually seen a functioning Sony T1 so I pulled my reader out of my purse and showed it to the customer who decided to order a white Sony T1 ONLINE.
When I arrived home, I wrote Sony an email about Best Buy's representation of their product. I received a canned reply that basically said "oh well". I seem to care more about their readers that they do.
