capacity of nook classic vs STR (titles vs memory)

This is not theoretical because I have over 800 ebooks on my B&N account.

I would like to try the Simple Touch Reader, but my research says it can hold ~ 1000 books while the nook classic can hold ~ 1,500 with SD card. I'm getting close to 900 books now and have noticed some hits in performance, particularly in loading my library. I have archived a fair number of these books. What I need to know is will the STR handle a library with ~ 1,500 books as long as at least 500 of the books remain archived, or is it a matter of actual number of titles that the library software has trouble managing? It looks like I may have to eventually manage my library through sideloading & removing books, which kind of defeats the purpose of having wifi.

I don't have anything on my nook but the default screensavers/wallpaper and books. No music or anything.

Thoughts?
