First, touch Quick Settings, More, Device, then click On to enable Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources.

You will need to establish an account with AndroidPIT. This is free. Also, you may want to download their Store App which will make finding and updating some Apps that are not carried in the Amazon App Store much easier.
