But if it's a refurb, wouldn't they be taken out of the package and tested?
For anyone who's wondering, the firmware update can be done just by connecting the device to a wifi connection - it does not need to be registered first.
Also the casing appears to be brand new - so either this was an unused return or they have replaced the outside (I hear that's what Apple does with refurbs)
