The hope that he would get his shit turned around was part of the reason I finished all three books of Soldier Son. Like I said, I enjoyed many things about the series (the world, the conflicting cultures), but Navare and his "Magic Obesity" just got tiresome. It wasn't his fault... we get that... all the characters around him should've "got it" as well." The fact that many parts read like a dietitian's planner didn't help.
