There may be a way to get the cover image that is used for the kepub version but I warn you it is pretty involved.
1. Load the kepub into your Kobo.
2. Connect the Kobo to your computer.
3. Go to the .kobo/images directory and you will find the 4 or 5 (depends) thumbnails that the Kobo has made for the book. It will have a long and involved name but you will see the title in there somewhere. You want the one with Library_Full near the end of the name. It has an extension of .parsed but is simply a JPG file.
(note: do NOT change this file. It might screw up your database.)
4. Copy this file to your computer and rename by adding .jpg to the end of the filename.
5. You will now be able to use Calibre to add to your epub.
6. Then delete the kepub from the Kobo.
7. Now add the epub however you normally do. (Calibre or Explorer)
See quite simple and easy?
