On the kindles with accelerometer (DX,DXG,Touch), you could make an alarm clock app turn off by flipping the kindle over (or by pressing any button or key).
The speakers are on the back anyway, so lay it face down in alarm clock mode, and then turn it over when the alarm sounds.
