Ok, I installed 0.8.12 from source, it works perfectly -- 0.8.30 compiled with the same flags and dependencies throws the 'Failed to find masthead image in manifest' error described above. If you need further information for debugging please let me know.

Just to be absolutely explicit: the *only* thing that changed between the version that breaks and the version that works is the Calibre version. Both are compiled from source, use the same libraries, and using the same Calibre configuration. When I choose "Download all scheduled new sources" in 0.8.12, it works. Upgrade to 0.8.30 and it breaks.

By the way, is that a typo in the menu text? Should it be "Download all scheduled *news* sources"?
