Let me help to clarify further:
Every 7 days (or more) you may self-promote. (Less time than that is considered spamming us.) When you are allowed to make a self-promotion, make a post to your thread with the new information. This legitimately brings the thread to the front. You may also (your choice) decide to update the information in the thread's first post, although all this does is give information to a first-time reader of your thread.
