Because a brief mention of a minor detail that has no relevance to the story can still serve a purpose. It can be used to emphasize the larger item the detail is a part of, and it can also be used to tell the reader something about the person that noticed that detail.

Though the writer should probably make a point of only doing this with details they know and are familiar with. So if you know nothing about computers, ask someone who does before writing details about them...
