After reading about them here on MR, I tracked down the first two "James Potter" books. They're not quite J.K. Rowling, but the first book isn't bad at all so far, and seems like it could actually be part of the Potterverse.
Oh, and it's the first book I'm trying to read entirely on my Kindle Fire, so far so good, even though I probably should have set it aside while I was cooking. A light dusting of cornmeal doesn't seem to have done it any harm.
