I don't expect the bespoke software to be made available for any but the most popular OSs (which is the case here), but the reader should be fully usable nevertheless. What if I didn't have access to a PC at all?

There's absolutely no (technical) reason I can think of why the reader shouldn't be able to authorise and register itself with the Adobe DRM system over Wifi.
