Welcome to the board. Re the comment right after your post by JSWolf, on the upcoming KF8 file format, this is mostly to support things like graphic novels and advanced mathematical symbols. Based on what Amazon is putting out, this is not something that will make the K3 eReader both you and I own obsolete. Here's how Amazon is explaining the transition to publishers:

I've had the KK for 16 months, and it's an unusually good device. If you look at the consumer reviews at Amazon.com, you'll see that it gets 19 times more 5 stars reviews than 1 star reviews. No other Kindle model, before or after, comes close to this ratio.
