My real name is unique in the US. (There may be a little kid with it as well, but I don't know). One does not want to be broadcasting it around the world...
So I choose a nom de plume, equally unique, but not as readily traceable. Many of my friends have called me Sir ____, so....
Ralph (a relatively common givenname) Sir Edward (another relatively common surname).
Until I used it, unknown.
Best of both worlds.
