Yes, it can be set to not sync anything, but there is a bug that doesn't recognize that setting the next time you connect via USB. It defaults back to sync all and you have to quickly press the cancel button. No, there is not really manual transfer with the new software like there is with Reader Library. Manual transfer only works from the T1 to the Reader software. Not from your library in Reader software to the T1. I ended up using drag-and-drop to transfer all of my books to my T1 and then creating collections on the device. I also use DropBox as well as wireless downloads from websites and my library.

Of course, using this method I can't transfer notes, last page read, bookmarks, etc on my T1 back to the Sony software and share that info with my other Sony ereaders. You will be able to do this when (if) Sony enables the wireless capability on the T1 to sync wirelessly with the Reader software like the 950 model currently does. They need another firmware update to enable any device wireless syncing.

I had Reader Library setup to sync everything among my devices. It was smooth and so nice. The new software is a disappointment. I never expected Sony to take a step backwards. For example, I think that the latest versions of Kindle for PC/Mac with collection syncing across devices is now better than the new Reader system. I didn't think that compared to the old Reader Library system. If you didn't already use the Reader Library software and have a Kindle too, then maybe the new software would be ok for you.

I guess I'm so disappointed and this issue is so annoying to me because the potential is there to work well but it's been poorly executed. End of rant.
