Three years back Amazon removed 1984 from peoples accounts and Kindles because it was being sold illegally in the US. It took about 24 hours for Amazon to apologize and give everyone affected a coupon for a free book. Soon after they gave affected customers the option of having the book returned to them or receiving a second free book.

They have not removed another book since.

I would advise storing books on your computer and some place else. That way if any book store you use goes belly up, and this has happened with several smaller bookstores, you have back up copies that you can use.

There are folks here who have bought books from smaller bookstores and found that when contracts with Publishers ran out they were no longer able to download the book from where the store stored it.
