and that to me, is what piracy is-someone else directly profiting from your work and intentionally setting out to screw you. piracy to me is good old fashioned bootlegging.
someone who just downloads your software doesn't know who you are, they just need a program that does X and may have never even heard of your software until they came across it.they may even end up legally purchasing the next installment/update or whatever from you.
to translate that to ebooks, if someone was selling and profiting off of ripped and burnt to dvd ebooks by selling them on ebay or flea market/boot sale, thats when it becomes piracy. someone "trying" a book from an author theyre iffy about doesn't meet the criteria imo.
