Well, let's say you go camping and you read in your tent. You'll be using you're light and your Kindle's battery to power the light. That gives you less time to read before needing a charge. Unless you have a way to charge the Kindle you'll have to do without if the battery goes flat.

With my 650 and the light cover, all I have to do it bring an extra AAA battery and I can read longer due to the fact that the light cover doesn't draw power from the 650's battery.
