I've quit using Aldiko, using Mantano instead. Mantano does pdf better, and is at least as good and probably better for ePub. I use the paid version, but the only difference between paid and free is that free comes with Google ads, but I think only in certain screens, definitely not while reading. You can get free and paid Mantano from Slideme:

Mantano has direct access to both Calibre and Gutenberg in its "My Bookstore" tab, and any other sources that have an opds interface.
