As it turns out, I just started reading Great Expectations, which was serialized over nine months or so, two chapters a week. It's interesting to see how the arc of the story works. So far no dull moments, starting from page one, where an escaped convict threatens to cut out poor Pip's heart and liver if he doesn't come across with food and a file to cut a manacle. I'm only 15 percent into it, but there is no shortage of surreal plot twists. Not to mention regularly scheduled cliff-hangers to keep you turning the pages. It's like a primer on how to write a serialized novel.
