My Classic Nook did the same thing. I did all of these things to no avail:
Removed the battery and tried a different one (at the B&N store where I went for help).
Deregistered and reregistered several times.
Reverted via the factory fallback to the previous software version.
Called B&N tech support (from the store).
The store couldn't help me, and tech support couldn't suggest anything that I hadn't already done, so I filed a claim with SquareTrade, where I had my warranty, and got a reimbursement check for the cost of a new Nook.
