I have used my Nook STR by skipping OoBE for two months long, and the standby battery usage was very high compared with the advertised "two months" of battery life. I had to recharge it every 4-5 days. My Nook was discharging at the rate of ~20% daily, with or without reading.
Finally after installing 1.1 update and seeing no change in battery usage, I have used "erase and deregister" and registered the Nook with BN. Now my Nook uses like ~2% charge daily in standby without reading. At this rate I guess I would need to recharge it every 3 weeks.
Maybe my experience was a fluke, but if you experience the same battery drain you might want to keep this in mind.
