Prospective new user questions

My wife has joined a book club recently and is enjoying it. There have been several hints at wanting an e-reader this Christmas. Conversations about e-readers in my presence, questions about my knowledge of them (none), and a few other hints, makes me run to the Internet to research.

So here I am and I think I've found that the Nook Color would make her happy. She's not so interested in solely an e-reader, as she'd like to browse the web as well. I think she'd like an iPad, but she opposes me getting her one (too much money, and my wallet thanks her for that!) Plus we've already picked out the "big" gift this year.

She's going to expect me to give her a well refined product demo on Christmas day. I watched the two YouTube videos that the site owner here posted from last year and have an OK handle on it.

So here are some questions and concerns:

Is there a good, practical online "users manual" to walk though how to order a book, cost, and general usage?

One thing she has concerns is that reading at night and that it may be hard on her eyes. For those who had this concern prior to owning this device, what are your thoughts?

She wants to tap on an unknown word in a book and see the definition. Can this do this? If not, is this why people get other reader apps (whatever that means) to perform this type of functionality? This is important to her.

How does "lend book" work? Does she loose the ability to read it while it is being lent out? Two weeks, right? Can you re-lend it after two weeks?

That's it for now. I'm sure I'll have more questions at some point... Hopefully I'll appear "all knowing" this Christmas!
