Aggghhh!!! I put a dent into the back of my iPad 1.

I keep it in a sturdy leather case that I thought was bullet proof. Unfortunately I dropped it from waist height onto concrete steps. The back of the iPad now has a deep three inch dent in the top right corner and the edge at the volume control is slightly mangled. The iPad still works fine.

Just how weak is the back of these things? Checking the internet, denting the back seems to be a common accident.
