Thank for your help though I am not sure I understand the answer. I am using word to prepare the book not html. I tried to use the option to insert a table of illustration but it liste dthe images themselves. When I tried to list the illustration caption it messed up the fomatting (the centered caption becoming left aligned). I will try to give it a go!
