I'd be nervous about that, if I were you...I believe that's what caused a serious bug with my kobo library and forced me to do a factory reset...but that's just a theory of mine, since I cannot think of any other logical explanation.

In the couple cases we're seeing here where the update didn't work (and perhaps caused some more severe problems), let's just say that I believe you...you probably did everything right...it stands to reason that the update won't work 100% of the time...I would have more confidence in that if Kobo's quality control was better.

Incidentally...I didn't sign up as an official beta tester either...since unofficially, most of us on this forum are already beta testers...
