New e-toy, but which one - use Itouch right now

I love my itouch as it's small enough to place in my purse and reading in the dark. But it's time to change as my itouch is very old and updates are crippling more and more of my apps.

I want to keep the same benefits (lightweight, night reading) but would like to upgrade to a tablet...just not one on par with an ipad...much too big!

I'm also very upset with Amazon and Apple, so I think it's time to consider a different system (android based?).

I basically want a toy for the following:
  • Reading - it has to have night reading so Eink is out and it must be light and small enough to hold in one hand.
  • light game playing - word games, etc
  • email
  • organizer
  • multimedia - netflix, music
  • variety of apps - ex. I have 3 or 4 german apps to learn the language.
  • Wi-fi a must, but want to sideload books such as with Calibre

I don't want a cellphone, and I am unlikely to use the gadget for serious email replying and/or shopping. I have a lightweight laptop which I use often. I don't want a netbook.

I'm hoping to hear from anyone, but especially anyone who has switched from a iphone/itouch to something else and has positive or negative feedback.

Thanks,

Tina
