...I was prompted for the update. I followed the instructions. They aren't difficult to follow. You just put the Vox down and let it do its thing. Everything was fine yesterday. I had been having intermittent problems with the waking from sleep thing prior to the update. After the update, I had no further problems for the rest of the day. Last night at the end of my day, I powered down the Vox, plugged it into the charger, powered it up this morning, and it's been like this ever since. If I leave it in sleep mode for more than a few seconds, a reset is required. The difference is that before the update, the Vox wouldn't wake up at all if this issue was occurring. After the update, I can get to the lock screen, I can unlock the Vox, I can get through one tap function and then it freezes from there.
One question that I would ask of everyone who is having issues: Do you all have some sort of anti-malware app running? I did, maybe that caused a problem. In the future, it would be a good idea to disable it, although these anti-malware apps tend to power themselves back up again when the Vox restarts.
I also wonder if there's some non obnoxious way to roll the Vox back to the previous build and re apply the update.

An anti-malware program would try to prevent system changes, but wouldn't have been able to do so (most of them) if you were in the middle of the firmware update process.
And yes, I generally find that if things aren't working right, it's because - depressingly often - someone didn't follow the process correctly, and not everything got updated. About the only time that I've had issues since the update was unplugging the Kobo Vox from my computer, when it froze after the 'Turn off USB Storage' button was hit, and I then unplugged it from the computer.
For my part, I made sure everything was as 'stock' as possible before the update; I undid the root exploit, made sure all the apps which came with the Kobo were present (if disabled), and then had just come off a fresh restart (following the unrooting) and let the Vox prompt me to update while it was plugged into the AC adapter and connected to my home network, to minimize issues with insufficient battery or else bad connections causing the firmware download to fail.
Also, I'm assuming people are still having problems after the factory restore, then update?
