That didn't work for me. None of my books will convert. I tried to convert a new book to rtf, then an old book that I'd converted before, taking the old rtf file out first, and got the same "failed to convert" error.
Tried other formats, and sometimes it would say it converted, but the book wouldn't open. Most times I got the "failed to convert" error.
If you have converted that book before, the settings in effect at that time are used.
There is a "Restore Defaults" button on the conversion screen that needs to be used to make that book use the Latest Defaults.
