Spend money on a good cover rather than a screen protector. I've had my reader for almost two years now, never had a screen protector, and there's not a scratch on the display. And anything you put between your eyes and the screen is likely to deteriorate the contrast.
@Nexutix: accidents are more likely to break the screen than to scratch them! A screen protector won't help against breaking the screen.
