OK, lemme try to be a bit more specific. And folks, I'll apologize in advance, 'cause I'm probably going to vent some time in the next 10 minutes:
First, no matter where I am, I have to hit the home button, then the apps button (a square with three squares of four in it) to get anywhere... If I'm on the apps page, and I start something like Browser, the back button doesn't take me back to the apps page, it dumps me back on the home page. Why isn't back, back?
And periodically, the "Recent" screen shows up, WITHOUT hitting the "n". And right now, it's up and the thing is just frozen. Hitting home does nothing. Hitting back does nothing. Eventually, I hold on/off and reboot.
If I go to the Market, and download some app, eventually it installs and I get left on a screen that says "open" or "uninstall". Except I've already opened it and done something. All I want to do is get somewhere else to do something else. Instead, I'm back to the screen where I installed... HOW do I shut off all the <stuff> I don't want running?
BUT, at the moment, none of this matters 'cause now that it's rebooted I no longer have an "apps" button. Gone. Home does nothing. Back does nothing. The menu button (three horizontal lines) does nothing...
After a 6 minute wait, the menu button finally came to life and I was able to put the apps button back. But, instead of being at the bottom of the home screen where it was, it's not at the top, says "Open/close" and I don't appear to be able to reposition it in the middle at the bottom where it previously was...
Oh, as far as the Dolphin Browser... Hit the button, screen turns white. Just sits there. This time I let it just sit, and after 11 minutes it finally said "start". Went in, skipped connecting for sync, it turned black, and after a couple more minutes popped up "Activity Dolphin Browser HD (in application Dolphin Browser HD) is not responding."
This is what happens with most of the stuff I've tried so far...
And, its the kind of trivial excrement that's so frustrating. I suspect 25 years ago, when I started using DOS and early Windows I found that same kind of incredibly annoying stupidity, but that was 25 YEARS AGO. I figured Android would be a lot more evolved and idiot-proof.
OK, even though it's sitting there telling me it's not responding, it finally responded behind the popup. I now have a Dolphin window. So HOW do I close the thing? There's no close button? There's no red "X" in the top right. Do I have to hit Home EVERY time I want to go somewhere else?
I think I'll put this off to the side again (I'm good for about an hour of this kind of frustration before I stick it in a corner for a couple days) and go see if I can't find some puppies to kick...
And now it stuck up a popup that wants me to RATE the Dolphin Browser, which I'd be happy to do, but hitting the button dumps me BACK in the Market page with the "open" and "uninstall" buttons.........
SO, is there the equivalent of an "Android for Dummies" 'cause I've used 4 types of O/S on IBM machines, used VMS on VAX for 12 years, been using Windows for 25 years, tolerated Unix for ages, and a half dozen other operating system, but this is incredible... So, tutorial? Survival guide?
